Springfield

Springfield, home to 15,814 living within 5.193 square miles, was formed as a township in 1794 making it one of New Jersey’s first 104 townships. Springfield was ranked as one of the Top 100 in “Best Places to Live” in New Jersey Monthly magazine in 2010. In fact, it was even featured in a skit with Steve Carrell on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart in 2000. Some notable people who have resided in Springfield are professional soccer player Claudio Reyna and Zygi Wilf, owner of the Minnesota Vikings.

School System

The suburb offers a great public school system. Edward V. Walton Elementary School teaches students in Pre-Kindergarten to second grade, Thelma L. Sandmeier and James Caldwell Elementary Schools teach students in third through fifth grade and sixth through eighth graders attend Florence M. Guadineer Middle School. In 2010, Newsweek named the town’s high school, Jonathan Dayton High School, one of the best high schools in the country, only 6% of the high schools in the U.S. made it onto this list!

Commuting

Commuting to New York City? By car, Springfield is about a 30-minute drive from Manhattan. New Jersey Transit provides bus services from the town’s center to Port Authority in Manhattan, as well as Newark Penn Station. Also, Springfield provides a Jitney service to the Short Hills train station that runs in the morning, afternoon, and early evening and from there, the train ride to New York Penn Station is about 45-50 minutes. Traveling further than New York City? Newark International Airport is just 10 miles away from Springfield.

Things to Do

What is there to do in Springfield? There are a variety of places to dine in order to satisfy all of your cravings from Thai Amarin to Pizza Rustica. If you’re looking for some retail therapy there are numerous shopping centers providing you with your retail needs, as well as the Short Hills Mall, which is only a few miles away. But perhaps the best thing about Springfield is the Baltusrol Golf Club, which in 2010 was ranked 36th of the “Best Classes Courses in the Country by Golfweek magazine. The beautiful course hosted the 2005 and 2016 PGA Championships as well as other golf championships including the US Open.

Climate/Nature

In the warmer months, residents can take a less than an hour drive to the gorgeous beaches of the Jersey Shore. Or if you don’t want to travel that far, you can enjoy the beauty of Echo Lake Park in nearby Mountainside. The park offers fishing, trails, a dog park, and more!
